This cemetary in the local community of Wyandotte is about to be next door to a 750 Million Dollar Water Park. You can read about the history of this "Potters Field" where are only a handful of markers and many buried there are unidentified. Yet it is comforting to know that even in days as dificult as these are economically, there are many steps that are being taken to protect and preserve it.
Thanks for sharing this. I was not aware that this existed in the county, but have heard of such places before. It is nice to see that they are taking steps to preserve the resting pace for all of these people. Do you know if there are any plans to place a mopnument or such at the site so that people who drive by are aware that is a cemetary with some historical signifigance in relation to the county at large? I know that in Washington, MO., we have a rather large park in town that was formerly used as a cemetary. The headstones were removed at some point, and there are now benches, a couple of war memorials and a playground on the property. In the middle of the park is a rather large monument that was placed in memory of those who are still buried there.
I haven't seen any more recent updates on this, but what a lovely idea to have some type of a monument to let people know that there are some folks there that deserve to be remembered. Since they are doing so much work to peserve it, hopefully they will include something like that before they finish.
