In Rosemary Ellen Guiley’s Encyclopedia of Ghost and Spirits, she defines Telepathy as: “The mind-to-mind communication of thoughts, ideas, feelings, and mental images.”
In my experiences so far in the venture into the paranormal world, and research. I believe that Telepathy and Sensitivity are most likely one in the same. There are many documented cases of this ability to connect through thought from one person to another, since the ability began to be formally tested in the 18th Century.
I will take it one step further here and express the opinion that this telepathic communication is not limited to a connection between the living, but between the living and the non-living as well. I think this is the basis for the distinction of “Sensitivity”. We do not know what makes the soul what it is, but there is a lot of documentation to support the theory that the part of us that is the soul, is made up of some type electromagnetic energy. That is why we can detect some spirit activity by using the EMF and K2 meters.
Many of the earliest tests were simple and we can still perform them today to try to determine whether or how much of that ability we may have. One of the earliest tests was to place 2 people in separate rooms, one would act as the “sender” and one would act as a “receiver”. The sender would then concentrate on a specific number, word, or image. The receiver would concentrate on the sender, and note the impressions that came to mind.
These techniques later advanced to the use of special decks of playing cards. Telepathy is not believed to be affected by distance or obstacles between the sender and the receiver. You could literally be hundreds of miles away from the person or spirit that you are connecting with! I know most of us have heard the term “universal consciousness” before, what if that is what telepathy is. The original internet, that moved ideas and images to the people of the world. Time and time again there has been in history documented cases where inventors, for instance, will come up with the same ideas on seperate sides of the world at basically the same time, (before we had the internet or global communication). Hundreds of people would get impressions of a disaster taking place, such as the Titanic, the Hindenburg, even our own tragic 911 event. When you study events like these it invariably comes up that someone had a dream about it happening before it happened, or a feeling of dread that made them change plans and thereby allowed them to avoid being part of it, or had an intuition that some one they cared about was part of the tragic event and found that to be true when they were notified.
So if this is a natural part of our natural make-up, we can develop it by being open to it and practicing with some simple exercises, like the original test for starters. If you can find someone to work with you, you could begin by working with cards. Regular playing cards or even some of the ones that they make for pre-schoolers to teach them shapes etc, would seem like a perfect starting point.
Here is a little more about the consensus from the scientific community, who, although they cannot explain telepathy, no longer dispute it’s existence either. Tests have shown that there are some common characteristics that have been observed about telepathy although they do not apply in all cases:
1) It is closely linked to emotional states, both of the sender and the receiver.
2) Women are more likely to experience it than men.
3) The telepathic faculty sometimes sharpens with age, perhaps because the physical senses become impaired as age advances.
4) Telepathy can be induced in the dream state.
5) Telepathy has biological connections: blood volume changes during telepathic sending and recipient’s brain waves change to match those of the senders.
6) It is adversely affected by dissociate and positively affected by caffeine.
7) It is more likely to occur during the full moon, suggesting that gravitational or cosmic energy fields play a role in the process.
